The webinar will provide a general overview of learning disabilities. Join to learn what learning disabilities are, how to advocate for you or your child to be screened either in school or outside of school, and how to support your or your child’s needs. All ages can benefit from the information learned in this presentation. Common learning disabilities with Tourette Syndrome include dysgraphia, dyslexia, dyscalculia.
Presenter: Dr. Amelia Malone
Dr. Amelia Malone is the Director of Research and Innovation at the National Center for Learning Disabilities (NCLD). Amelia is an experienced researcher and works collaboratively to identify effective solutions for improving student achievement. Her research contributions include developing effective instructional methods for students with learning disabilities, identifying the cognitive and linguistic correlates of mathematics development and responsiveness to instruction, advancing best practices for models of prevention and intervention (e.g., multi-tiered systems of support), and translating research into practical and approachable implementation. She has extensive experience serving students in diverse public schools and works hard to improve the lives of students and young adults with learning disabilities.
Amelia received her Ph.D. in Special Education from Vanderbilt University and worked in the department for six years following her doctoral studies. She spent some time directing and strategizing research efforts in the ed-tech space before joining the NCLD team. Her experiences in education uniquely position her to align diverse groups across the field to drive innovation and reform for students with learning disabilities.
