Free Online Support Group for College Students with Tourette’s Disorder and ADHD

As a follow-up to the Improving Executive Functioning Skills in College Students with Tourette’s Disorder webinar, held on February 11, there will be a special one-time support group on March 11. The support group will aim to help college students reinforce skills for effectively managing time and scheduling, and engage in systematic planning for assignments. Participants will also review practical strategies for managing stress, anxiety, and mood related to Tourette’s Disorder and ADHD, and gain support from attendees with similar experiences.

In this program, participants will learn about the relationship between Tourette’s Disorder and ADHD, and gain understanding of the commonly associated challenges in learning, academic planning, and organization. Facilitators will present strategies to guide students in improving assignment tracking, managing associated materials (including internet based/online materials due to virtual learning), effectively managing time and scheduling, and engage in systematic planning for assignments. Practical strategies for students to manage stress, anxiety, and mood related to Tourette’s Disorder and associated organizational skills difficulties will also be reviewed.
Additionally, participants will get free access to a library of short videos (4-5 minutes) illustrating organizational skills taught in the webinar (e.g., time management, scheduling/planning, etc.) in addition to stress management and relaxation skills. Program content and guidance is based on reviews of recent research and brings together the extensive expertise of faculty members of the Tics, Tourette’s Disorder, and Trichotillomania program, and the Organizational Skills Training Program within the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at NYU Langone Health.

Join faculty from the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the Tourette Center of Excellence at NYU Langone Health to learn the foundations of Organizational Skills Training (Gallagher, Spira, & Abikoff, 2014) addressing organizational, time management, and planning difficulties in youth. We will review strategies for enhancing student motivation and executive functioning, including tracking home and school projects and assignments, managing time and materials, and engaging in planning for home projects and school tests, papers, and presentations.
Additionally, participants will receive free access to an online video library illustrating organizational skills taught in the webinar (e.g., time management, scheduling/planning, etc.). *Licensed psychologists will earn two continuing education credits at no cost*
