“The Vow” – Tic Resources

In the HBO television show, “The Vow”, certain scenes depict individuals who claim to have been cured of Tourette Syndrome. The experiments shown in Part 2, Episode 203 were not conducted by licensed clinical professionals with expertise in Tourette Syndrome and did not undergo peer review. The TAA has partnered with HBO as we continue to provide up to date information on Tourette Syndrome, Tic Disorders, and associated conditions.

What is Tourette Syndrome (TS)?

Tourette Syndrome (TS) is a lifelong neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by involuntary movements and sounds known as tics for which there is no cure. A recent CDC study has shown that 1 in 50 school-aged children have TS or another Tic Disorder. Behavioral therapy, as well as medical therapy, can be successful in managing the symptoms of TS and its co-occurring conditions.

The TAA recommends consulting a licensed clinical professional for diagnosis and treatment and offers a Find-a-Provider tool for assistance in that area.
