3 Tips For More Successful Relationships

Eva Tukuafu is a clinical program manager and social worker in the Department of Neurology at University of Utah. She has shared her top three tips on building a more successful relationship.

1. Be present

Whether it’s work worries, an entertaining phone app, or a new Netflix series, our society makes it easy for us to think we can do ten things at once. Multitasking has become a way of life and it is hard at times to slow down and focus on the person you are with. Try to put down your cellphone and eliminate other distractions when trying to have a real connection with someone.

2. Be positive

Sometimes life is hard, but the key to a healthy, stable relationship is to stay optimistic. It’s also important to have people you trust that you can share the not only the hard times with, but the good ones too. Being positive about the good things in your life draws other people to you, because everyone likes to be reminded that for all the difficult experiences in this world there are just as many beautiful experiences.

3. Be confident

Being confident in yourself means being confident in your relationship. When meeting someone new, there is no reason why your Tourette shouldn’t just be another thing for others to learn about you. Whether you’re at work, school, or a public place, try being upfront with the person you are with and remember that your have qualities and interests that are important.
