Snow, sleet and rain couldn’t dampen our spirits on Thursday, November 15 at the TAA 2018 Gala where we honored Domenick A. Cama, President & Chief Operating Officer of Investors Bank. It was a beautiful evening at Capitale in the Bowery, NYC, where hundreds of individuals supported the TS community. The event featured a comedy skit from Samuel J. Comroe and a guitar performance by Trevor Smith. The inclement weather may have caused many to miss the event, but that did not stop us from showcasing the work we do on behalf of the community. I am proud to report that, thanks to our generous donors, the event raised over $1 million to support our important work.

Samuel and Trevor, along with their families, traveled a great distance to be with us for the Gala. Through comedy and music, they showcased the successes and struggles they face as a result of Tourette Syndrome. We are grateful for their contribution to the event, as both of their performances moved the audience.

As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, I want to offer a note of thanks. Each and every day we have the privilege of bringing to life the three mission pillars of the Tourette Association: Awareness, Research and Support, but we don’t do it alone. Thanks to individuals like you we are able to respond to the over 5,000 calls and emails we get each year from individuals and families who feel lost in the face of a new and confusing diagnosis. We have been able to visit more than 75 cities to meet, educate, and work with our invaluable Chapter leadership, community, and donors. And we have been able to invest over $21 million dollars since 2001 to facilitate new and cutting edge research into the causes and treatments for TS. None of this would be possible without you.

Whether we are providing much needed information and resources to those who have been newly-diagnosed or funding cutting-edge research into the causes and cures of Tourette Syndrome, we work to be there for those who need us. #GivingTuesday will be on November 27, a national day of philanthropy, and we hope you will join the movement by sharing your storybecoming a member and making a contribution.
