Celebrating 45 Years of Discovery

2017 Research Progress Report

Imagine providing hope and changing the lives of thousands of individuals living with Tourette Syndrome (TS) and Tic Disorders. For over 45 years the Tourette Association of America has facilitated medical and scientific discoveries for the benefit of the Tourette community while building awareness, redefining innovative research and providing support.

Our cutting-edge medical and research programs continue to identify new therapeutic and medical treatments for Tourette Syndrome by improving successful behavioral interventions, testing brain surgical methods, understanding the benefits of using mindfulness in care, and enhancing the understanding of brain changes that occur within the TS condition.

Our research programs have led to ground breaking discoveries including:

  • Discovery of genes and genetic variations for the disorder, providing clues to underlying brain mechanisms
  • Brain structure differences which have been identified in children with TS
  • Progress in understanding medical cannabis activated pathways and their potential contribution to TS
  • New methods to assess the promise of Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS)

As we continue to lead the way in new treatments in both pharmaceutical and behavioral therapy, your contribution will help us continue to create a newer and deeper understanding of TS.

With 1 in every 100 children living with Tourette Syndrome or a Tic Disorder, research continues to provide the critical information needed to improve the accuracy and timeliness of obtaining a TS diagnosis, as well
as provide a better understanding of TS and its comorbidities, most commonly being OCD and ADHD.

Please partner with us in our research efforts as we continue to provide hope and discover new and innovative ways to improve the lives of all those who live with Tourette Syndrome and Tic Disorders. Donate today at tourette.org/Donate17. Your participation will help us as we embark on our continued journey to advocate, support and enhance lives.

The Ochsman Foundation, a good friend and supporter of TAA’s Medical and Research Programs, has agreed to match dollar-for-dollar up to $100,000 of contributions received by December 31, 2017. Don’t miss this opportunity to double your impact today!
