Where We Have Been & Where We Need to Go

For the past 46 years, the Tourette Association of America has worked diligently to address the needs of, provide support to, and advocate for, the Tourette Syndrome (TS) and Tic Disorder community. Over this time, we have continued to see a marked increase in the need for our services and the demand has become greater than the supply. One example is due to the increased rate of requests for our Health & Education programs, we have completed a full years worth of programming within six months!

With the growing number of calls for individual support and training from medical professionals and educators, the programs we provide have become more critical than ever.

1 in 100 children have TS or another Tic Disorder and many of these children also struggle with co-occurring conditions such as OCD, ADHD, anxiety, and learning disabilities. To add to this already difficult situation, children with TS are all too often subjected to bullying and have difficulty developing social relationships because these conditions are simply misinterpreted, by both professionals and the public alike.

For adults with TS, life presents its own unique set of challenges. They may face discrimination in the work place, when seeking housing, or medical treatment. Because their condition remains largely misunderstood, we have seen an upsurge in the number of adults seeking resources and support.

Now, more than ever, we need your help to ensure that every child, every family, and every adult who reaches out to us will obtain the assistance they so desperately need.

Your support will help us strengthen our Chapter and Support Group network so they are prepared to deliver appropriate services for affected children and families at the local level. Your contribution will allow us to develop monthly webinars geared toward adults with TS and the particular obstacles they face on a daily basis. With your partnership, we can expand our programs to reach underserved communities that lack the resources and professional expertise to address the needs of this vulnerable population.

As we approach the end of 2018, we sincerely hope you will consider making a year-end donation. Please join us in our efforts to make a difference in the lives of children and adults by ensuring they receive the proper support needed to lead healthy, productive lives.

Sincerely,
