Tourette Association of America Announces NEW VP of Research and Medical Programs
We are proud to announce the appointment of Diana Shineman, PhD, as Vice President of Research and Medical Programs. Dr. Shineman will oversee all programs, activities and staff within the Research and Medical Programs Department, which endeavors to advance the understanding of Tourette & Tic Disorders and facilitate the development of effective therapies for these disorders. Prior to joining TAA, Dr. Shineman spent nine years at the Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation directing the Foundation’s drug discovery and development grant programs and strategic initiatives with foundations, government and industry partners.
“We are thrilled to welcome Diana onto the TAA team to help us to further enhance the great work that is done in our Research and Medical Programs,” said John Miller, President and CEO of Tourette Association of America. “She brings with her impressive experience and knowledge that will assist us in developing new treatments for and improving our understanding of Tourette Syndrome and Tic Disorders.”
“I am excited to use my past experiences both as a researcher and in the non-profit sector to ultimately improve care for individuals affected by Tourette and Tic Disorders,” said Dr. Shineman. “We continue to gain more knowledge of these disorders every day and together through continued research, we can enhance the quality of life for individuals with TS.”
Dr. Shineman earned a Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology from the University of Pennsylvania working in the Center for Neurodegenerative Disease Research. She received a B.A. in Biology with a Nutrition concentration from Cornell University and was named a Howard Hughes Research Scholar. In addition to maintaining various professional memberships, Dr. Shineman has also authored numerous articles and peer-reviewed publications.
