The Role of Cognitive-Behavioral Strategies and Pain Psychology in Managing Pain Associated with Tourette Syndrome and other Tic Disorders

Description: Tourette Syndrome and other Tic Disorders can be associated with chronic pain and impairments in functioning due to pain. Cognitive-Behavioral Strategies for pain can be useful in managing the pain associated with ticcing. In this presentation, Dr. Sarah Love (Pediatric Psychologist) will describe the relationship between chronic pain and tics, explain the role of pain psychology in the management of chronic pain, and provide information on cognitive-behavioral tools and strategies that can be helpful in managing pain associated with Tourette Syndrome and other Tic Disorders.

Dr. Sarah Love

Dr. Sarah Love attended graduate school at Wright State University School of Professional Psychology in Dayton, OH. During graduate school, she obtained clinical training through rotations at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and Dayton Children’s Hospital. She completed her pediatric psychology residency at Nemours Children’s Hospital in Wilmington, DE and graduated with her Doctor of Psychology in 2020. She then completed a fellowship at Akron Children’s Hospital where she provided clinical care through the inpatient consultation/liaison service, the Pain Center, Headache Program, and Sleep Medicine. 

Dr. Love is currently a pediatric psychologist at Akron Children’s Hospital within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health. In her current role, she provides behavioral health services within interdisciplinary teams in Neurology and the Headache Program with a focus on non-pharmacological pain management. She also serves as an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Northeast Ohio Medical University.
