The Centers for Disease Control estimates that 0.3% of children age 6 – 17 years in the United States have received a diagnosis of Tourette syndrome (about 148,000 children), but some reviews put this number as high as 0.9%.  At least half of children with this condition remain undiagnosed, a somber fact given the potential for significant adverse psychosocial impacts from this neurodevelopmental condition. TS is poorly understood amongst both the lay and physician community, leading to both misconceptions and stigmatization of individuals suffering from this treatable disorder.
Giovanni 5
Teen resident, and senior at Kellenberg Memorial High School, Giovanni Kubanick recently received his Eagle Scout status and commendation. He now joins a league of gentlemen and, more recently, ladies who’ve climbed to the zenith of Scout mastery. The ranks include presidents, astronauts, composers, billionaires, movie moguls, and others. Rising to the challenge in itself is astonishing, but Giovanni had to double down on hard work and dedication. Why? Because he not only had to accomplish the extraordinary but do it while tackling the daily trials of living with Tourette Syndrome (TS).

While telehealth has been a public policy priority of the TAA for several years, during the COVID-19 pandemic we have seen a drastic increase in the utilization of telehealth across the nation, proving its value. The TAA is working with other patient groups and coalitions to help promote the continued and expanded reimbursement of telehealth services beyond the pandemic.
back to school post pandemic
Across much of the United States, back-to-school time has come in the Spring instead of the Fall. Whether your children have been entirely at home or doing some form of hybrid education, many students are heading back to school full time. Transitions can be difficult for those with Tourette Syndrome, and this transition, in particular, presents some additional challenges.
