TouretteConnect September 2020

Dear Friend,

I am excited to share updates on progress being made on behalf of our resilient community. We’ve launched a new donor exclusive series that delves deeper into advancements made as a direct result of your contributions. These exclusive presentations launched on September 15 and included Dr. Liana Fasching and Dr. Wissam Deeb, Young Investigator Award Grantees, presenting on their current research projects with Dr. Marc Schmidt, TAA Scientific Advisory Board Member, moderating an interactive Q&A session. We look forward to hosting the second exclusive research update on September 24, from 5-6pm EST.

If you would like access to these opportunities, please consider making a financial gift that can support the TAA and our research programs. To make a greater impact, The Ochsman Foundation has agreed to match your gift dollar-for-dollar up to $100,000 if received by December 31, 2020. That means your gift can go twice as far in supporting research, education, awareness and other advancements that break down barriers and improve life for all impacted by TS or a Tic Disorder.

There has always been a heightened need for access to TS programs and offerings that support underserved areas across the US. In our current state, we have tripled offerings to ensure everyone – underserved or locally supported by a TAA Chapter or Support Group – can have the access that is so desperately needed. The next wave of Online Support Group registration has launched and is a free and highly-accessible opportunity. The options include three parent-focused groups – Tourette Syndrome 101, Living with Tourette Syndrome, and TS and Explosive Behaviors/Rage, as well as a young adult group and a Spanish-speaking group.

We couldn’t imagine postponing our Annual Gala for a year, so we went virtual. Being hosted on October 29, 2020, this event will emphasize the power of our community and the TAA. For the first time ever, this high-end event will be opened up to the general public and features Ben Brown, host of Tourette’s Podcast, as emcee. Virtual Gala will also feature an auction, live entertainment and the opportunity to hear from inspirational voices. Ticket sales begin on October 15, but various sponsorship and advertising opportunities are available now.

TAA staff and volunteers continue to mobilize to provide innovative programming and resources, but your involvement is crucial now and in the future. We can’t accomplish our mission without the help of our constituents and we rely on the generosity of people like you. This time of year always brings a rise in communications from the TAA. Please see the outline below of what you can expect within the coming weeks and months ahead. We are grateful for your involvement – whether attending, supporting, or spreading the word.

2. Research Update: Propelling Innovation, Advancing the Future
