This Tourette Syndrome Awareness Month (May 15 – June 15), we’re focusing on advocating for a world where each member of our community is free to be their authentic self, disclose their neurodivergence when and how they want, and can choose how they want to be defined. While tics can play a large role in our lives and identities – and we have the right to disclose our TS or Tic Disorder on our terms, all too often people at work, school, or in other situations choose to only see us as someone who tics.
We need your help to show the world that you’re proud of who you are – tics and all – and that you should be free to be “AuthenTICallyMe” by choosing how you define yourself!
We’re making participating in the TAA’s #AuthenTICallyMe campaign easy! Just post a short video between May 15 and June 15 with a variation of the script below on social media. We have put together plenty of suggested language and other examples below for you to use as you get creative!
Make sure to tag/mention our social media handles so we can share your amazing video!
“Hi, my name is _______. I am a(n) _________. I love ________. And I dream of _______. I also happen to have Tourette Syndrome. That’s AuthenTICally Me! My TS is just one part of who I am, but all too often, that’s how the world defines me. This TS Awareness Month, I invite you to help the Tourette Association of America fight stigma and work towards a world where we’re the ones who choose what defines us. Please share your own AuthenTICallyMe video and donate if you can at tourette.org/authenticallyme”
Feel free to use the sample language below in your social media captions when posting your video. Personalize it and consider replacing the bracket with more information about your experience living with tics.
Happy Tourette Syndrome Awareness Month! As someone with TS, [Add personal details], I’m advocating for a future where everyone in our community can disclose their neurodivergence when and how they want and where I’m free to be #AuthenTICallyMe.
The Tourette Association of America works nationally and locally to raise awareness and they provide trainings, workshops, and resources to our community to enhance their advocacy skills!
Donate to the @touretteassociation at tourette.org/authentTICallyme to help fight for a world that sees me as more than my tics.
