Bayside, NY – February 28, 2025: The Tourette Association of America (TAA) is thrilled to unveil a powerful new awareness campaign on premier billboard spaces in two of the most iconic advertising locations in the world. Made possible by a generous donation from New Tradition, the campaign takes center stage in New York City’s Times Square and Downtown Los Angeles.

Began on February 26, the campaign will educate millions of people about Tourette Syndrome with a message that challenges misconceptions and promotes understanding about this highly stigmatized condition. The billboards seek to inspire the 50% of individuals living with TS or another Tic Disorder who remain undiagnosed to unlock the benefits of a formal diagnosis. As a condition with symptoms that typically appear in early childhood, the message is designed to be particularly engaging for parents of children who may just be starting to tic. To support these outcomes, the campaign features two inspiring members of the Tourette Syndrome community in moments that highlight their experiences with tics.

“Understanding starts with visibility,” says Amanda Talty, the President and CEO of the TAA. “With an estimated one in 50 children living with Tourette Syndrome or another Persistent Tic Disorder, it is critical that caregivers see and understand the impact of these conditions, so they are best prepared to provide support. By sharing real, unfiltered experiences, we want to help people recognize TS, get the facts, and feel empowered to seek support.”

The TAA encourages everyone to join the conversation by sharing images of the billboards on social media and tagging the TAA. The Times Square billboard will be shown through early March, and the Los Angeles billboard will be shown through April. If members of the public experience tics or know someone who does, please contact the TAA by visiting tourette.org or by emailing support@tourette.org.

Tics can range from mild to moderate and severe and are disabling in some cases. TS is one type of Tic Disorder – tics are the primary symptom of a group of conditions known collectively as Tic Disorders. The cause(s) of TS and other Tic Disorders remains unknown and there is no cure.
